For 20 years, Sonic Boom has been about deep low-end pressure you don’t just hear, but feel in your chest. It started in 2006 at Pakhuis Wilhelmina, grew through illegal Queensday tunnel raves, and was shaped during long nights at Patronaat Haarlem, Hedon Zwolle, Bitterzoet, and several ADE specials. Today, Sonic Boom is a yearly ritual at Melkweg. The night is always powered by the Krackfree Soundsystem, with no mercy on the sub-bass.
Sonic Boom moves through many styles of electronic music. Over the years, it has hosted artists such as Digital Mystikz, Joker, 2562, Falty DL, Quest & Silkie, Goth-Trad, Kahn & Neek, Kode9, Sir Spyro, Commodo, Neffa-T, Headhunter, J:Kenzo, Kryptic Minds, J. Sparrow, V.I.V.E.K, DJ Stingray, Kromestar, re:ni, Darwin, Riko Dan, Killa P, Pinch, and Mumdance. Local artists like Gomes, TMSV, Hebbe, Moonstones, H Y M N, PQQ, Annebel, and Vanity Roxane have also played, all carefully selected by founder and resident Brutuzz.
While many bass-focused nights have slowly disappeared, Sonic Boom keeps pushing the sound. Not only out of nostalgia, but also by looking ahead to the next wave of sound system culture.
